Escola Oficial d'Idiomes de Salou is a public school created in 2007, specialising in the teaching of foreign languages (English, French, Russian) that offers training for adults. Its faculty consists of 6 teachers and the number of students enrolled in the 2017-2018 academic year is 379.
The teaching staff have a higher degree, a master's degree in foreign language teaching and a minimum level of B2 in the specialty taught, such as requirement to teach at the centre. The municipality of Salou is characterized as a
reference leisure and residential destination. The specific weight of the tourism sector and other related activities makes the school cover a basic training demand in the environment. However, it is worth noting the temporality of the labour market in the area and, therefore, of our students, which translates into undesirable drop-out or absenteeism rates. This is a common phenomenon in adult education, but the temporality of the labour market accentuates this trend in our school. The school has implemented different strategies to mitigate the effects of temporality. The most recent, with proven efficacy, the introduction of the blended modality in English courses of 4th and 5th (advanced level). After analyzing the results, the conclusion is that the students value positively the accompaniment of a professional specialist and online access to quality tools and materials. Therefore, the school has started from a diagnostic evaluation to detect needs and areas for improvement, and has set coherent and feasible objectives, in line with its Annual General Program, its Strategic Project and the European Strategic Plan. In the framework of its strategic planning, the school has created two specific structural positions: a project manager and a specialist in new technologies. Thanks to these figures, the school can apply for an Erasmus + project to broaden the European dimension of the school, offer a complete training experience to the members of the faculty and initiate the digital transformation required to build student commitment Given the inexperience of the school in European projects, and as a starting point, the school has chosen to request a project of mobility of the teaching staff within the framework of KA1 actions. The project manager has received training for its preparation and has coordinated with an initial team to define it. It has also formalized the registration of the school in EU Login and has uploaded the necessary documents. The specific objectives that the school pursues with this project are: a) to improve student commitment and results and the satisfaction of the educational community in general, by modernizing and improving the use of new technologies; b) to promote and recognize the training of teaching staff in the areas of foreign language methodology, new technologies and linguistic competence; c) to transfer the knowledge acquired to the faculty, the educational community and other target groups; d) to create a network of national and international contacts for collaborations and exchanges within the framework of the different European platforms and / or projects. Once the objectives have been set, the project team has carried out a survey of receiving partners consulting the different European platforms (EPALE, SEG, eTwinning), until finding two suitable candidates. The activities will be: a mobility to Ireland for a structured training by a centre accredited in new technologies in English and a second in Malta for learning by observation in a centre specialized in methodological innovation in the teaching of the English language. There will be two participants in each mobility, selected according to their needs and the established selection criteria (mobility possibility, B2 English language competence, transfer capacity, involvement in the blended modality courses, knowledge of the project). Once the partners have been decided, and the regular and effective communication with them has begun, the project has been planned in all its stages. The school hopes that this European experience will be the beginning of a digital transformation in our centre in the short term, which will allow us to influence student commitment and the satisfaction of the entire educational community in the medium term. It is also expected that there will be a transfer of knowledge and skills from the participants to the rest of the faculty, and from the school to other target groups, through training sessions and / or advice, creation of materials or methodological proposals that can be shared through the different digital tools, belonging to the centre or to higher educational instances and European platforms.
